Media Literacy Week takes over Finland again

Feb 5, 2018 | Share

The 6th annual Media Literacy Week (MLW) is celebrated in Finland 5th-11th February.  More than 2 000 local organisations, majority of them kindergartens and primary schools, have registered to the MLW. The aim of the MLW is to raise awareness and promote the importance of media literacy and media education.

The MLW provides free recourses and campaigns for the local organisations to use and participate in. The new resources are covering a rich variety of themes, such as information literacy and trustworthiness of media, children’s own media production and diversity in media.

This year 55 organisations (covering media companies, governmental agencies, universities and NGO’s) are engaged as stakeholders in the MLW. Themes, campaigns, awareness materials and events for MLW are planned, produced and promoted in co-operation with stakeholders. The National Audiovisual Institute KAVI coordinates and carries the main responsibility for the MLW, but it is a joint effort of all participating organisations.
